Canvasback initially designed the 9-piece cargo cover (10 if you include the bumper flap) and received feedback from Rivian R1S owners asking for an easier in/out option that didn’t use adhesive strips or leave gaps for dust and dirt. In response, they created a new "1-piece" design (which is actually two pieces but referred to as one) specifically for Rivian. Having seen the original 9-piece design, I can say the new "1-piece" version offers a significant improvement in ease of use and fit, though depending on how you travel or how messy your furry friends can be, you might prefer one option over the other.

Some owners use the 9-piece, some use the "1-piece," and others use both, depending on their needs.

Regardless, you have options to choose from with Canvasback.

Updated 10-Piece Design

  • Tailored Fit: Unlike the original one-piece cover that spanned across the second and third rows all the way into the cargo area, this new design features individual covers for each seat and surface. It’s a perfect, custom fit that hugs every contour of the R1S interior seat backs, providing a very polished look.
  • Stays in Place: Each piece attaches directly to the carpet using hook-and-loop fasteners along with carpet tape which prevents them from moving around.
  • Improved Aesthetics: The new design provides a cleaner, more professional finish compared to the single-sheet look of the original prototype. It’s ideal for those who prioritize style.
  • Improved functionality: The old one-piece design did not allow you to quickly move the seats around, back into place. The new design allows you to move the 2nd row, 3rd row and cargo cover independently while the covers all stay in place. The functionality is amazing. And it looks beautiful all at the same time.
  • Optional 10th Piece: Not pictured here, you can option a bumper flap that attaches to the lift gate for even more protection. The bumper flap comes in a few sizes for your exact needs.

Only 10 Pieces?

There are more than 10 pieces that CanvasBack provides for the Rivian R1S. In addition to the cargo area and seat backs, they also have side trim pieces, headrest covers, and even trim pieces designed to fit around the built-in compressor. They are not pictured here but I will share them in another post.

Protection

If you’re looking for protection against extreme spills—like dog accidents or heavy liquid messes—the one-piece cover may still be the better option for full coverage. However, for everyday use and a polished appearance, the 10-piece design strikes a fantastic balance between protection and style.

Installation

Admittedly, the installation takes a bit more time compared to the simpler one-piece setup. However, the payoff is worth it. The individual pieces allow for precise alignment, and the result is a beautifully tailored cargo area that complements the premium feel of the R1S.

Final Thoughts

Canvasback has really stepped up their game with this update. The new design not only looks great but also performs exceptionally well. As a dog owner, I still appreciate their thoughtfulness in creating products that address real-life needs while maintaining the premium feel of a vehicle like the R1S.

If you’re considering a cargo cover for your Rivian R1S, this 10-piece Canvasback system is absolutely worth it. It's a must-have upgrade for those who value both form and function!

Full Coverage in the Cargo Area

Even though CanvasBack provides more than the cargo area, I think this setup alone is more than most will need. Impressive coverage throughout the entire floor and seat backs.

Lift Gate & Lift Gate Slide Covers

The lift gate and lift gate slide piece move together incredibly well and stay put due to the carpet tape that CanvasBack provides (which is already in place on the back of each liner). They make it pretty easy to get everything on straight and installed quickly.

Cargo Area Storage Cover

Here is one of the major improvements from the one-piece design. With all the individual pieces, you can now remove the cargo area cover while all the other liners stay in place.

Easy Installation

Here is a look at the tape on the backside of each liner. It comes pre-installed so all you have to do is rip off the other side and stick it onto your carpet. I was a bit skeptical at first, but as long as your carpet is clean, the liners stay in place and don't move.

1000% recommend these liners to anyone with an R1S.
