It’s a no-brainer - given the simple fact that the mid-size R2 is a larger SUV than the compact R3, obviously, the R2 has a larger interior footprint than the R3. But let’s break it down a bit to see how they compare, in terms of comfort and space:

Interior Space:

The R2 features a versatile two-row design. The cool thing about both rows is that the seats can be folded completely flat. This is just what I need for road trips - gives enough space to make a stop and take a quick nap. When folded down, it can fit about 2 people. The R3 also has foldable seats but space is smaller than the R2.

Features:

Think Rivian got tired of customers complaining about limited storage in the R1T and R1s because both the R2 and R3 come with not one but two glove boxes. Great news for people who need the extra storage space. From the photos on their official website, the R2’s dashboard/glove boxes has a more refined, stylish design than the R3, which is still sleek, but a simpler, straightforward design.

Comfort:

The R2 will have a more spacious feel than the R3, given the difference in size. From the photos above, we get a good sense that the R2 will feature Rivian’s signature minimalist design and utilize premium materials we Rivian enthusiasts are accustomed to. So I know both SUVs will optimize comfort and luxury, albeit to varying degrees.

Given the space, large families and off-roaders/adventure seekers will most likely prefer the R2 to the R3. R3 will probably attract customers looking for a reliable, everyday, on-road SUV that doesn’t scrimp on comfort.

Getting a bit ahead of myself since we still have to wait a long ways before either of these SUVs launch. Lol! Still doesn’t hurt to get a snapshot of what to expect and reserve/preorder (at least for the R2. Rivian hasn’t yet opened orders for the R3).
