I have seen people use thumb drives, adapter cords with thumb drives, adapter cords with SD cards, regular cards/drives, extreme use cards/drives, etc. for their dashcam storage solution. Thought I'd make a thread with possible options for dashcam storage.
Note: I don't have time to keep this list updated from the thread so there may be more.
This list was compiled from discussion with other owners and personal experience. Make sure whatever solution you get can handle a hot vehicle in summer, cold in winter, and any shock from throwing things in the console, bumps, crashes, etc.The 3 common storage solutions for your dashcam includes
1. Thumb drive
Samsung Flash Drive
2. SD card and Adapter
Sandisk high endurance SD card
Samsung Pro Endurance SD card
Samsung EVO Select SD Card
3. External SSD drive
Sandisk extreme SSD drive
Samsung T7 Shield SSD drive
* Make sure to get at least 128gb as recommended by Rivian
For any of these solutions, a small cord is recommended to keep the drive from sticking out of the USB port in the console where it could be hit and damaged or damage the USB port. It also allows for velcro or other attachments to the inside wall of the console to protect it, keep it from getting snagged by items in/out of console, making noise.
Adapters
There are different adapter options that you could go for but I'll personally recommend these 6 options as they've proven to be amongst the best out there.
1. Right angle USB adapters
2. 90 degree pivot adapter
3. 90 degree pivot usb adapters
4. Kingston Micro SD reader
5. Anker SD card reader
6. Anker Card Reader with cord
Cords
It's very important to chose a suitable cord for better storage performance. Two options you could go for includes
1. Anker USB C Male to Female 6 inch cord
2. Usebean M/F USB C cord
The adapters and the cords listed here cna be purchased on Amazon and if anyone is interested, you can let me know and I would send you the link.
