Don't know who might need this but I wanted to drop a few tips on trimming the plastic panels of your running boards.
You can make use of a Dremel to cut a slit in them and wiggle in the bracket for the step. To cover the slit, just make use of a Gorilla tape. I did this with my first running board and the tape held fine for over a year.
It's not advisable to use their included tools, they are not made from hardened steel. You might also need a cheater bar to get the OEM bolts out.
Aluminum/tin snips aren't the prettiest but you can't see the slits unless you're under the truck. Liquid can still get in even before the running boards. The boards can be reinstalled to protect against road debris damaging the e coating on the underside.
Some have cut slots from the door in. The way I cut them is less visible but requires the runners to be off when you reinstall the panels.
These are a just a few helpful tips and I hope someone here finds them useful.
