I’ve been thinking about this for a while and I felt this might be the right time to share my thoughts. When a Rivian vehicle shifts into park, the left-side drawer on the screen pops out automatically, but its buttons should require a two-second hold to activate instead of a single tap. This change would make the system safer. Sometimes, when parking, you try to tap another option on the screen, but the drawer slides out and covers the spot you meant to press. This can trigger an unintended action.

For example, once when I parked and tried to lower the vehicle height, the drawer popped out, and I accidentally opened the trunk instead. It hit a pole, leaving a noticeable scratch. A longer press would prevent these mistakes, giving drivers more control and reducing the chance of accidental button presses right after parking.

This issue has happened multiple times, and while it might seem like my fault, the design makes these errors easy to make. For instance, another time after parking, I reached to adjust the GPS, but the drawer appeared and nearly caused me to open the hood in a tight space with low clearance. These moments show how the current tap-to-activate setup can lead to risky situations. Requiring a two-second hold for the drawer’s buttons would add a simple layer of protection, ensuring drivers don’t accidentally trigger actions they didn’t intend.

It’s a small tweak that could prevent costly or unsafe outcomes, especially in situations where quick screen taps are common right after parking. This change would make the system more user-friendly and safer for everyone.
