Last weekend I paid my friend a visit and he got a really cool accessory for his R1T which was the split gear tunnel sled with power. I helped him put it together and thought it'd be great to share some lessons I learned building a gear sled with him. Would also add photos below.
First, with cortical tracking drawer slides the platform ends up a full 6” above the tunnel floor. This is suck a bummer but little can be done without changing to a different drawer slide.
Second, do not use plywood for mounting the drawer slides cause they delaminate
Third, it was a UV pre-treated plywood. A little more durable, but version 2 will be birch ply that can be stained deep grey. It was also very slippery, so nothing could stay put.
Next steps: Plan on building a few drop-on tools boxes for the 24” side that you can swap out based on task at hand. The 40” side goes just to the far side of the window to the rear seat. I’m thinking a 12-can insulated box for access to soda from the cabin.
Also we ended up setting up a more secure cooking surface. I think a black stone will be more useful than the induction cooktop.
