- R1S Rivian Blue
For about 2 days now I've been having a charging issue. So when I try to make use of my Tesla universal charger for my Rivian, at first plug it shows a red light and my Rivian doesn't charge. When I unplug it and then plug it back, it later shows a blue light and starts to charge. I've noticed this for a couple of days now and I haven't been too comfortable about it.
I don't want my R1S to stay at the service center this period cause I'm planning a trip this Christmas and if I should call it in, it might shatter my plans. Thinking it might be a minor issue and I should probably just give it a few days and it would return to normal. So I asked a few owners around and they gave me a few suggestions.
An owner told me that there's a setting within the Tesla charger that needs to go from "Any EV" to "Compatibility mode" Which will solve this. Otherwise I just have to plug and unplug, plug again. I should go to my Tesla App where my Wall Connectors are registered. Go to "settings" - Then "Vehicle Charging"- Then "Access Control" Then chose your wall connector and change it to "Compatibility mode".
Another owner told me that Tesla chargers always start trying to do their own comms standard that isn't J1772, so the Rivian doesn't know what to do with that, so it shows a fault. The charger doesn't get the response it expects from the car so it swaps to J1772 then it can comm with the car, so it starts working.
I'll try either of this and hope it'd be the solution that I need as I don't plan to take it to the service center. So I'm hoping it'd be an easy fix so I can get it sorted once and for all.
