This winter season, I'm sure some people are looking at a few options for winter tires and so, I came up with some options. These are all dedicated winter tires and will wear quickly if used above 40 degrees F. More importantly, using winter tires during the summer will likely cause safety issues due to increased stop distance and poor performance in wet and warm weather.

Here’s a Quick Look at 3 decent options for a dedicated & efficient winter tire:

1. Yokohama iceGUARD G075
42.9 #
14/32 tread
9.6” tread width
Rated 4.76 / 5 by ~250 reviews
~$320 each

Info: Likely the best option for tread life, rain/slush, but possibly noisy. If you need to add studs then this isn’t the tire for you.

2. General Grabber Arctic
41.6 #
12/32 tread
9.1” tread width
Rated 4.71 / 5 by~50 reviews
$250 each

Info: likely a middle of the road option, strong performer with decent noise and tread life.

3. Hankook Winter i*Pike X (W429A)
42.3 #
12.5/32 tread
Rated 4.74 / 5 by ~40 reviews
$250 each

Info: likely best noise performance but tread life may be less than others, prob. more focused on icey driving

Honorable mention for Nokian Hakkapeliita R5 SUV, but no reviews yet, only 11.5/32, so jury is still out.

Also to consider: Don’t care about range that much and simply want the best Winter tires possible and/or need heavy duty LT for towing, etc? Then you should consider the LT275/65R20:
Nokian Hakkapeliitta LT 3
Winter Light Truck tire: 54 #, 17.5/32 tread, 80 psi max.
