When I traded-in my Gen1 R1S to a Gen2 R1S earlier this year, I really wanted to keep the compact spare from my Gen1 R1S. I couldn’t find any details about how to “un-install” this, so I had to figure something out and here’s what I figured out.

So in your “old” R1S that has the spare you want to move:

How the Gen2 R1S spare wheel well comes. Note no tray.

Use a utility knife to follow the pre-cut stencil to remove.

1. Remove the entire spare wheel assembly, including the wheel and the tools/ jack insert.

2. Use an M10 socket and remove the four screws holding in post that the spare attaches to. Keep this bracket and the 4 bolts.

3. Set aside the tray that nests above the spare and provides some extra storage, the Gen2 R1S does not include this.

In your new Gen2 R1S:

1. Find the corresponding area that the bracket would attach to. The carpet is pre-cut. Use a utility knife to remove this section of the carpet.

2. Re-attach the mounting post with the (4) M10 bolts.

3. Re-attach the spare to the mounting bracket

4. Insert the tray that you kept from previous R1S.

5. Done!

4x M10 bolts installed.

Spare installed over the mounting bracket. Just add the bits on top and the tray to call it complete!
