So I've posted an article before about tips for new Rivian R1S owners with regards to things to look out for when purchasing a Rivian R1S. This is a continuation of that. There would always be something to look out for when getting a new vehicle, as you can never be too careful to make sure everything is in order to avoid future complications as a result.
1. Make sure you have somewhere to charge it at your house.
2. Ask them to show you how to:
- Do a soft reboot and a hard reboot. I've only had to do 1 of each total.
- Cycle through the screens on the left side of the screen behind the steering wheel (some people don't realize this is even possible).
- What the efficiency screen is showing you and how to drive more efficiently
3. Have them show you the drive modes and vehicle settings like stability, height controls, and regen if you aren't familiar with them.
4. Set cruise control and then Driver+, and then how to disengage them.
5. Get into the other menus—the first time I was behind the wheel, I couldn't figure out how to do it—you swipe up from the bar at the bottom.
6. Use the key card to get in and drive.
7. Show you where the external cameras and sensors are and the top view.
8. There are settings for driver assistance you may want or not, like you can set it so that the car will warn you and the steering wheel will fight you if you drift out of the lane. I turned this off. I'm in a rural/exurban area, and it was picking up cracks on the road. Also settings like turning the interior lights on or off with the doors.
These are just a few tips for new owners to look out for when purchasing a Rivian R1S. It's a great vehicle and one of the best I've ever driven. I'll be posting a lot more in another article so if you're a new R1S owners or have plans on owning one anytime soon, do well to look out for the next article for more tips. Have an awesome Rivian experience!
