A club member recently got his Rivian R1T and has had it for about 2 weeks now. Said he's pleased with its operation the 3 times he has had to drive it even though he didn’t receive it until he had made his first payment and was paying insurance on a vehicle he hadn’t driven. He felt happy tho when he finally got to receive the vehicle. So where he lives, he has back door access to some of the best 4WD roads in America. What the R1T was made for right?
He decided to test that theory and took it out Saturday for some mild off roading and a nice hike. Upon returning and turning it on, multiple warning lights came on indicating it was unable to lower from the 15” Off Road height and speed would be limited to 20mph. Luckily there were backcountry roads to get him home ( no cell service) but it was still a long journey.
He contacted a Service Advisor and attempting an unsuccessful vehicle reset, it was determined that it would need to be towed to a Service Center. Complained that it tookl over 24 hours for a tow to finally come and then it was a dolly system and not the roll back as promised.
It was also taken to the tow companies vehicle lot and not immediately transported to the Service Center as promised. Almost 24 hours later it was still at the tow services vehicle lot no closer to the Service Center.
They offered me a rental vehicle which he declined and hopes to get his vehicle repaired and returned ASAP.
Personally, I don't have a bad experience with my R1T while off-roading, at least not yet. Even tho I sympathized with him, I still believe the R1T is one of the best off-road trucks ever made. Not sure what the outcome will be but for someone like him, I think he needs a really good trip experience to build back that confidence he might have lost.
