I have had my R1T for over 2 years now and I have wished Rivian would add this simple software update to the camera procedures.
CURRENTLY
Put it in reverse and the camera shows on the main screen with the rear tailgate camera selected. That goes away when you put it in drive and reverts to the last selected main screen (nav for example)
Works great.
However, if you pulled into your garage the night before and you manually select the front camera view so you don't hit anything and are able to pull in close to the back wall, that's the main screen mode you left it in.
Fast forward to the next morning, you back out and main screen goes to rear backup camera. so far so good. Put it in drive (or after a predetermined time period) and it reverts to the last used main screen (from last night - front camera view). This is very distracting so you immediately try and switch it to Nav.
It's like my old infinity, you had to press the "Agree" button every single day that you accepted the TOS for using gps while driving. Pita.
SUGGESTED
When you press GARAGE button to open / close your garage, immediately bring up front camera on main screen. This would be temporary just like the reverse camera when you put it in reverse. I.e. it goes back to last selected main screen once you put it in park
Fast forward to the next morning, you are on NAV screen while in garage. You back out of garage (main screen on reverse camera due to being in reverse). Shift to drive and the screen reverts back to the last used screen (NAV).
When you hit garage door to close, main screen shows camera (unless you already have Reverse camera superseding it) and then as you drive forward just like when it skips out of reverse camera, it skips out back to last used screen (NAV).
I believe the great majority of drivers turn the camera on when pulling into a tight garage. If they don't, they certainly wouldn't be opposed to it as long as it went back to the previous main screen selection.
It would be a great way to remove that constant toggling of modes every single morning.
