I recently created some Rivian Cup Holders and was had this thought about creating a version of the cup holders without the bottoms, specifically for a giant 64oz water bottle with a silicon sleeve, measuring 133mm in diameter. When attached to the front storage area, this would let large water bottles just sit on the floor, but still be stable.
Honestly, I'd been thinking about this for a while, but for inside the storage area. Saw a post about this experiment on Reddit about a week ago, but after a few iterations I've come to finalize my models. I call these Cup Clamps, for lack of a better name. So feel free o drop any name suggestions as I'm open to all suggestions lol.
The net result of all this is that I have a couple of new "double-sided" storage clips and a new bracket that spans the entire width of the storage area. This new bracket has two clips to attach cup holders or the new cup clamps. In testing with larger water bottles trying to be inserted in the back, we found it was hard to get them in and out because there's not a lot of vertical clearance before they hit the the dash.
They were also a long ways back and sometimes hard to reach. I ended up making an angle adapter (35 degrees off vertical) that brings things forward a bit more. I started with 45 degrees but then the water bottles wanted to fall over. 35 degrees seemed to be a good compromise.
If you don't want to use the bracket, you can just use the new double-sided clips and attach directly to them. There's also a new "front-double-pin" model that you can use to help secure the clip when used without the bracket (they're not in the photo below, but would have helped). Since you remove the clip by rotating it toward the inside, this helps prevent that. It's not perfect, as everything flexes, but it does help.
Anyway, the above photos are the new models I just thought I'd share in case anyone was looking for another solution to their drink storage up front. Here are a couple photos of the different configurations possible.
