I had a minor accident late last week were I cracked the side-view mirror on the passenger side of my R1S (mirror-to-mirror contact with FedEx truck; FedEx truck mirror was fine). The BLIS still works, the camera in the mirror still works and the mirror fold and unfolds without a problem.
Rivian told me that I need to have the mirror replaced by a Rivian-certified repair shop. Rivian Service will not repair it. The repair shop quoted me $2,900 for the replacement. They stated that it's not a matter of simply swapping out the cracked mirror. They have to disconnect the mirror housing and the various elements from the rest of the rest of the vehicle, swap out the mirror, reconnect everything and calibrate it.
That sounds right, but $2,900 seems like a crazy amount of money for that process. I don't know if anyone has any ideas on how to go about it as I'm open to all suggestions.
Someone reached out to me as he has also faced a similar situation before. He said he was able to piece it back together so it's not obvious. Told me be picked one up on eBay but was told by a Rivian service tech that it will need to be recalibrated which Rivian may or may not carry out since the part wasn't purchased from them or one of their authorized service repair centers. So he ended up leaving it as was. He advised that I fix it myself but I'm still contemplating. I'm sure before the start of next month, I'd have figured something out.
