I've come across a couple of owners who have put up their R1S for sale. Some of them wanted to sell to raise money for personal use, while others just wanted to change vehicles. But whatever their reason for selling might be, I'm sure they would have asked themselves what value they can get for reselling and if it would hold its worth in the market.
The Rivian R1S hasn't seen too many resale, but of the few that it has seen, there have been some significant fluctuations in the market. At first release, the R1S vehicle skyrocketed as some owners sold for up to $50,000 above the original price, mainly due to Rivian releasing a small number of units into the market. With time, the market corrected, with prices dropping to around the same level as their original MSRP levels as more vehicles were later released into the market.
At present, used Rivian R1S models sell for prices ranging from $66,990 to $78,990, depending on factors such as trim, mileage, and location. For instance, I once saw a 2023 Rivian R1S Adventure with 24,005 miles that was listed for $66,990, while I also saw a 2024 Rivian R1S with 1,823 miles that was listed at $78,990.
Factors Affecting Resale Value
Resale value can be affected by some factors, like units available. If it's scarce in the market or has a good number of units available for purchase. Vehicle trim and options also affect the resale value, as the adventure and quad-motor models aren't sold for the same price. Two also important factors to consider are mileage and vehicle condition. These two factors tend to affect resale prices a whole lot.
Tips for Maintaining Resale Value
Maintaining a good resale value isn't that difficult. You just have to know a few tips on how to maintain your vehicle, and reselling it wouldn't be that difficult while you'd also get a good value for it as well. Tips like low mileage, popular trim options, proper and up-to-date maintenance, and also excellent vehicle condition would definitely boost your resale value.
Note: Resale value can also depend on your location and market conditions too.
Will Rivian R1S hold it's worth?
Presently, the R1S has a good number of units in the market, and getting a brand new one isn't as difficult as before. Although if your R1S is in good shape, reselling it won't be difficult, especially if it's a popular trim like the adventure trim. The most important thing is to keep your vehicle in the best condition, as that would help convince the buyer that he or she would be getting their money's worth. I definitely would never sell mine and won't advise anyone to sell theirs either, but if anyone feels like letting go of his or her R1S, depending on these conditions and the condition of the vehicle, I'll say that it'll definitely hold its worth in the market.
