- R1S
The Ford Bronco was my favorite SUV for almost 3 years; that was before I got my R1S. As someone who has driven both before, I thought it'd be proper to write an article comparing both. I'll start by saying that they're 2 very different vehicles, as one is an EV while the other runs on gas. Both vehicles offer distinct and impressive features and share some similarities as well. All of which we will be looking into.
Design and Features
We will start off with their design and features. It's important to note that the R1S offers a modern and stylish design style while compared to the Bronco and also has a lot more advanced features given it's an EV.
Rivian R1S:
So for the R1S, it comes with a modern and stylish design, a pretty spacious interior made with premium materials that gives that feel of luxury, a display touchscreen of 15.6- inches, a panoramic glass roof, and heated and ventilated seats.
Ford Bronco:
The Ford Bronco, on the other hand, has a retro-inspired design. It comes with a 12-inch display touchscreen, heated sets, removable doors and roof (which I find pretty impressive), and also has a rugged utilitarian interior as well.
So if you're looking for a luxury SUV, then the R1S would definitely be your go-to choice.
Performance
In terms of performance, they share some similar qualities. The R1S, being a modern SUV compared to the Bronco, has a slight edge over it, though.
Rivian R1S:
Rivian R1S comes with a quad-motor configuration, 754 horsepower, 829 lb-ft torque, goes from 0-60 mph in less than 3 seconds, and has a mile range of 316 miles (this is for the max battery pack).
Ford Bronco:
The Ford Bronco comes with a 2.3L turbocharged engine, 300 horsepower, 325 lb-ft torque, goes from 0-60 mph in 6.3 seconds, and runs for a combined 22 mpg.
When it comes to performance, the R1S edges the Bronco and is a better option to go for.
Off-Road Capabilities
Off-road capabilities are vital for modern-day SUVs, and that's one area the Ford Bronco is known to be pretty great at. Comparing both, we will get to see which one would come out on top.
Rivian R1S:
So the R1S has an advanced All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system and has a ground clearance of 8.1 inches. It comes with a wading depth sensor that warns drivers of a water depth (which is pretty impressive) and has a tow capacity of over 7500 lbs.
Ford Bronco
The Ford Bronco, on the other hand, comes with a 4x4 system with electronic-locking front and rear axles, a ground clearance of 11.6 inches, a 33.4-inch water fording capability, and a tow capacity of 4500 lbs.
In terms of off-road capabilities, I'd pick the Ford Bronco over the R1S because it offers that feel of adventure. Like you're actually going to explore the wild. For someone who loves their tech, going with the R1S would be a better option, definitely.
Safety Features
Safety features are quite essential for any vehicle, and both the R1S and the Bronco are no exceptions. They both come with different safety features to ensure a safe driving experience.
Rivian R1S
Safety features for the R1S include an advanced driver assistance suite, adaptive cruise control (ACC), lane departure warning, and automatic emergency brakes.
Ford Bronco
The Ford Bronco comes with safety features such as the Co-pilot 360 safety suite, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping system, and automatic emergency braking.
When it comes to safety, they're a lot more similar, and either of them can be selected in terms of safety as they both offer some pretty good safety conditions for drivers and passengers as well.
Pricing
Pricing is an essential factor in determining which vehicle to go for, as most people tend to consider and go for a cheaper option.
Rivian R1S
R1S prices depend on the trim, as it has a starting price of $78,000 for the adventure dual motor and can go up to as much as $117,000 for the premium quad-motor.
Ford Bronco
Just like the R1S, the price for the Ford Bronco also depends on the trim you're going for. Starting price for the Ford Bronco Big Bend is about $40,000 and goes up to as high as $90,000 for the Raptor.
From the comparison so far, there's no doubt that the R1S is the superior vehicle out of the two. It's superior in terms of tech, design, performance, luxury, and even safety as well. Although the Ford Bronco excels really well in off-road trips, the R1S offers a better package deal and is worth the extra price too.
If you're looking for a cheaper and a more hands-on off-road vehicle, then the Ford Bronco would be your perfect companion, but for someone who wants an advanced tech ride with a lot more comfort and luxury, not minding the price, the R1S is the perfect choice for you.
