I do have to hand my R1S over to a garage attendant regularly. Most attendants are great but there are some pretty careless ones too. It seems like there should be a “Garage Attendant / Valet Mode” to provide a little protection from garage abuse.
I think it should include the below functions. What else? Is this a good idea or dumb? Does it already exist?
Parking Garage / Valet Mode
- Screen should show basic operation (start, leave in park, etc.) for garage attendant. Provide in both English and Spanish, with buttons for other languages.
- Max speed limited to ~5 mph.
- Attendant cannot open frunk, use stereo, or run a/c for extended period. (Attendants will camp out in comfy cars.)
- Attendant has no ability to access gear guard or erase any recordings.
- Gear guard should operate but perhaps with some adjustments so it’s not going on (and using battery) too often in a busy garage. (Will have to leave car sitting for 3 weeks at a time occasionally.)
- Windows cannot be opened far enough for valet to climb in and out of them. (Ask me how I know this is needed.)
- Daily (or less frequent) (email or other) report to owner on battery charge, etc.
- Could have a maximum battery charge level limit after which more systems (like gear guard) shut down or become more limited.
- Height cannot be raised (to avoid smashing roof when cars are stacked or low clearances).
Anyone who has any other suggestions, please don't hesitate to add them below.
