On Sunday while on my way home my husband asked if I could pickup some BBQ for dinner... Sure no problem... Just a slight detour and hmmm that was a funny sound..... and why am I losing pressure in my left rear tire...
I pull over and I'm already down to 26lbs... The tire has a significant leak and now I'm in full panic mode... Why couldn't Rivian get me a spare? I honestly didn't know what I was going to do.
Anyway - I step out to look and see this...
I actually didn't see it at first... I heard the tire going down fast and as I was inspecting the tire for where the damage was when I saw that protruding from the wheel well liner.
By now the tire is flat and I really don't know what I am going to do. I pulled out the air hose kit thinking I might try to put some air in the tire just to limp it to a parking lot... Inside the air host kit was the tire repair sealant kit. I didn't think there was much chance the kit would work on a large puncture but I didn't have any options. So I took out the valve stem, added the sealant and put it all back together.
I then attempted to add air...
I got it up to about 21 PSI and could still hear the air escaping out of the hole but I decided that was enough air to slowly run the tire to coat the inside with the sealant so I disconnected the hose and drove a couple hundred feet coating the tire thoroughly. When I go out to check I could not hear air escaping so I connected the air hose and within a few minutes had the pressure back up to 50 PSI and holding....
While I am not terribly happy about not having a spare, and getting a tire basically ruined.... The Tire sealant Got Me Home... I will absolutely add another sealant kit to my emergency kit. Working on getting a spare tire but the most important thing was the fact that I got home safely that day.
