Social media was in a frenzy last month after social media star Marques Brownlee admitted selling his Tesla Cybertruck. Besides breaking the sales contract by selling his truck before the one-year moratorium ended, Marques inflamed spirits by saying he liked his Rivian more.
The latest person who appears to have done it was social media influencer Marques Brownlee, better known for his MKBHD handler. On one of his channels, he shared a picture of the Cybertruck with the text "Sold" and a "Victory" sign. This caused a deluge of replies, shares, and discussions. He explained he sold the truck because he "liked the Rivian better," which became an inflammatory statement.
It's unclear whether Brownlee got permission from Tesla to sell his Cybertruck, but many assumed he didn't, hence the backlash his post received. Many people ironically pointed out one of MKBHD's videos showing him driving a Lamborghini at 95 mph in a residential area while passing a 35-mph speed-limit sign and a "children playing" sign.
"Really disappointed that MKBHD is selling his Cybertruck. He should be running over kids at 95 miles per hour in a school zone in the best electric truck. Not a Rivian," one Tesla fan wrote on X.
Not only did Brownlee prefer the Rivian R1T over the Tesla Cybertruck, but he also said nobody cares about FSD. In the Tesla world, this is an even bigger heresy, as everyone loves talking about the infinite value autonomous driving will bring to Tesla. To be fair, Brownlee has a point, as the FSD adoption rate has been rather low despite Tesla's efforts. The EV maker has already sent three free trial periods to Tesla owners in North America, and it looks like more trials will follow.
Personally, I feel selling his Cybertruck is his personal choice. I drive 2 Tesla's and I own a Rivian too. I enjoy driving both but slightly enjoy driving my R1S more. Both companies offer different driving performance that makes them unique and enjoyable. I really hope it's all healthy competition between both users and I can't wait to see what the future holds for both companies. Here's a photo of his tweet from last month.
