This is a thread I was supposed to have posted a long time ago. When my truck was first towed and died (HV pack unavailable) I had tried a NOCO GBX75 jump starter on the wires near the trailer hitch. It did not work. However, a larger CAT jump starter did. Unfortunately I did not record the part number since I borrowed it.Today I did some testing as well as grabbed some things I forgot. There appear to be two modes of start up.
PARTIAL: Locks (doors, frunk, tail gate, and gear tunnel doors) and blinkers work but displays are dark
NORMAL: as if it was working
Rear wires:
- With NOCO GBX75 nothing happens even with override on (blinking white light.)
- With a larger jump starter, vector 1200a, to the rear it goes to PARTIAL and I can access the whole vehicle.
Direct to battery:
- With NOCO GBX75 it actually does go to PARTIAL (doesn't last long though- a few minutes but long enough to unlock everything)
- With larger jump starter it goes to NORMAL
When in NORMAL it eventually goes to PARTIAL before the jump starter fails. So, I'm thinking whatever they put in between the rear wires in the battery is reducing the voltage enough that the Noco does not work and the larger one can only get to PARTIAL. Or something like that.
Note that it is useful to have it in NORMAL to do things like unlock the camp speaker and review footage. Also note I don't recommend the vector. I just had it around.
Anyway, I hope the extra detail is helpful.
