I keep a small transfer tank (58 gal) for supplying fuel to my tractors and other diesel equipment. I like the small tank to keep fuel fresh. During hay season this year, I did not have a bed mat for my R1T, so I used my old farm truck (now sold) and my S10 (dilapidated) with narrow bed and cap that makes things tight. I did not want to spill diesel fuel in the various parts of the bed. But now I have a bed mat to catch any spills, and the convenience of the open bed of the R1T to do this chore.
I had looked at this bed mat even before it was released, but then lost track of it because of delays. Once again I was pleasantly surprised by the utility and thoughtfulness of the Rivian design. The bed is small, but it is wider than most midsize pickups, and that facilitates getting the tank out with a set of pallet forks. I thought the longer tailgate might present some problems, but it was no problem using the forks on a tractor, with good reach. This bed is quite utilitarian, despite it small volume.
Normally I would use a smaller tractor for this job, but the pallet forks were already on this one (Kubota M7060, my tractor for baling, etc.)
The mat proved perfect for the job. With the little ridge at the end and the non-skid surface, I was able to place the tank so it did not touch the tailgate and did not move. Used a single ratchet strap to hold it down, employing the two tiedowns in the back of the bed. Worked like a charm. (You can sort of see the tiedown in the first pic.)
Nice thing about this mat is that it can fold back and allow access to the spare/storage compartment. Sorry for the dirt, but I not only have fun with my Rivian, I use it for farm and other work projects.
I did not spill any fuel this time, but this mat is designed so that it would be contained if I dripped a little on it.
Truck did not even notice the weight of the full tank or any sway as I hauled it along. That was a first. Usually I can feel the fuel tugging in the bed in other trucks as I negotiate the tight turns. R1T was really solid.
Hope this is useful to someone.
