So I've heard a lot of R1T owners complain about their tonneau cover that when it opens, it makes a lot of noise. I've experienced that myself too, and I was able to get it sorted out by applying the WD-40 Dry Lube.
This is a simple how-to article on how to lubricate your tonneau cover if you also experience noise when opening their R1T tonneau cover and don't know what to do about it.
There are just a couple of steps, and they're pretty easy steps as well. The tools you'll need are just the WD-40 Dry Lube Spray and a towel to prevent drops on your truck from the hose while spraying and also clean the sections in-between after every spray.
It's important to note that before you start the process, make sure that your tonneau track is clean and free from any obstructions. Then you'll spray the dry lube on the tonneau track on both sides of the truck. After that, you will spray the sections in-between on top of the tonneau cover and also underneath the tonneau cover while using the towel to dry it. Spraying the in-between sections underneath is the tricky part, as the tonneau cover would need to be closed for you to be able to do so. Which means you'd have to lie underneath the tonneau cover while you spray the sections, and don't forget to use a towel so as to prevent lube drops on your truck.
After following these steps, you can open the tonneau cover to check if the creaking sounds are still present. If yes, then follow the steps again and run a noise check when done. It's advisable to lubricate your tonneau cover at least once a month, which helps for proper maintenance and longevity too.
