Just curious if anyone has heard anything about programming your own key cards. Now that it's possible for the key fobs, I'm hoping they allow the same for cards.
I was planning on having mine replaced next week, and it's going to be $30 for the card, and $40 for a mobile tech to come and program it for me.
The card uses a very standard Mifare DESFire EV3 4k chip. Unbranded cards with the same chip can be purchased on amazon for $3/each. But unfortunately in the world of NFC cards and dongles, 10x+ markups are EXTREMELY common, so I guess I'll give them a pass on that.
$40 for someone to drive to me seems fairly reasonable, actually. But it seems a lot less wasteful for everyone involved if I could just do it myself. On the bright side, when I lost my card sometime ago, it was extremely easy to deactivate in the app
