I recently picked up a 2024 R1S Gen 2, and I started noticing some battery drain when I parked it in my garage. The tail lights were blinking a lot too, which was pretty annoying. I disabled the proximity auto lock/unlock feature and Gear Guard, but the issue still kept happening.

Since our kitchen is right next to the garage, I wondered if Bluetooth proximity phone key might be causing the problem. We've never had this issue with my Tesla Model Y, even with Sentry Mode on!

I eventually realized the vehicle kept connecting with my phone - leading to the Rivian being on almost all day which was draining the battery 1-2%. Even though I disabled proximity unlock, it still seemed to be an issue.

Here’s what worked for me:
  • I closed the Rivian app completely, and that seemed to help.
  • I also turned off Bluetooth on my phone, which made a difference but it's annoying to have to turn it back on.
I found that when I’m near the car, it’s helpful to either turn off the key in the access settings or shut the app down completely. It’s a bit of a hassle, but it has improved things for us.

I think Rivian is still working on a fix for this. If you’re experiencing similar issues, I’d recommend reporting it!

Have any of you faced this? What did you do to resolve it?
