When I first got my R1T, one of the problems I encountered early on was regenerative brake issues. From time to time, I still encounter it too. So what is regenerative braking?
It's a feature in the Rivian R1T that slows down the vehicle while recharging its batteries. Over time, some R1T owners have reported issues that they encounter with regards to the regenrative braking system. Although a lot of improvements can still be carried out, it's actually a great way to recapture energy that would otherwise be lost as heat through traditional friction brakes.
Some common regenerative brake issues experienced by users are
1. Inconsistent brake feel
2. Over-reliance on friction brakes
3. Rusting brakes
To get these problems fixed, like inconsistent brake feel, try adjusting the settings of the regenerative braking through the display screen at the center of your vehicle. If you're having issues with overreliance on friction brakes, try the "one-pedal driving" mode. This allows your R1T to slow down using regenerative braking alone. For rusting brake parts, cleaning and lubricating brake parts and avoiding roads with high humidity can help you sort out that issue.
A few tips on how best to manage your vehicle to avoid repeated repetitive braking issues are
1. Get familiar with the different regenerative braking modes.
2. Don't rely on regenerative braking solely for emergency stops. Friction brakes should be used when necessary.
3. Proper maintenance, such as cleaning and lubricating brake parts, can help prevent regenrative braking issues from reoccurring.
