I saw an article 2 days ago about an owner who carried out the Rivian update automatically at 4:00AM this past Friday on his 10,000 miles R1S, went to get in the car Saturday and the doors would not open. No response to the key FOB either. The update window on his phone suggests the update made it to 19% and stopped.

He reached out to the call center and they recommended a tow to the nearest service center 3 hours away. If covered under warranty they will pay for the tow, but retrieving the vehicle is at his expense. So he requested a service tech be sent to his home and he was told that he would hear from the dealership on Tuesday.

Don't know why I've always felt this was going to be the ongoing challenge with everyone’s push for OTA updates, especially forced ones. Either the manufacturer covers anything that happens as a result of a software update even if outside of warranty, or they make it crystal clear it’s not covered, and give an option to actually decline updates. Won't be a bad idea if they should do both. The only slight issue I had from my own update was that any time my finger touched and then moved along the screen, all music (not video) would skip or briefly pause. The issue it was meant to address in the hot fix, was actually what caused it to start. I did an infortainment reset after a few days of it, and it completely cleared the issue, thankfully.
