Last weekend I was excited to receive my NACS adapter from Rivian via UPS after just placing an order for it barely two weeks ago. Given the stories I've heard, I didn’t expect it to arrive so quick, so I had already purchased an A2Z Typhoon Pro NACS adapter. To my surprise, Rivian's adapter arrived just two weeks later. Owning both adapters, gave me the opportunity to compare the two adapters side by side.

Build Quality: A2Z Typhoon Pro Takes the Lead

After carefully inspecting both adapters, I can say that A2Z Typhoon Pro is built to last. Its internal metal body, coated in a thick layer of plastic, gives it a solid and heavy-duty feel. Compared to the Rivian adapter which appears to be manufactured by Tesla, feels more fragile. Its thinner plastic construction makes it a bit better for casual use but it's unlikely to withstand rough handling or harsh environments.

A2Z Typhoon Pro's Padded Case: A Nice Touch

Another quality I love about the A2Z Typhoon Pro is its padded case. Personally, I think it's a very thoughtful inclusion which provides a safe and convenient way to store the adapter when not in use. Unfortunately, the Rivian adapter does not come with a protective case.

While both adapters serve their purpose, the A2Z Typhoon Pro is the clear winner in terms of build quality and overall value. It's better constructed and the padded case it comes with, even makes it a worthwhile investment for any Rivian R1S owner. If you're in the market for a reliable NACS adapter, I highly recommend considering the A2Z Typhoon Pro.
