- R1S Rivian Blue
A new R1S owner here but had a 2023 Model X 5-seater for over a year now. Both vehicles are pretty great, and in this article, I'd do a little comparison between both.
Model X
One of the things I love about the model X is its falcon-wing doors. Makes it super easy getting the kids into car seats. Compared to the R1S, the falcon-wing doors come out on top. Another noticeable difference is the seat spacing. In our R1S, we have 13 inches of space between the two car seats. In the Model X with second row bench, we had 18 inches of width between the same car seats.
Driving the model X is marginally "smoother." I think the air suspension absorbs small bumps and imperfect roads a bit better than my R1S. Maybe this is because I've had the model X for a longer period of time. Compared to the R1S, the motors are nearly silent, and overall the model X cabin feels less rattle-y and more composed.
Rivian R1S
The R1S has a bigger foot space for the front passenger compared to that of the model X. Probably because the R1S is a much bigger vehicle in terms of size, but I loved that.
The model X funk is noticeabley less usable than the R1S and not motorized (which is weird because everything else in the Model X is motorized). The R1S frunk is also more spacious and can contain more gear than that of the model X. Making it a perfect family vehicle.
The 360° camera is one feature I've really loved so far while driving the R1S. It offers more safety and gives the driver more eyes to see his/her environment. Loving it so far. In terms of exterior design, I'd definitely go for the Rivian R1S. It's unique headlights are something else. So different from anything I've seen and super beautiful at night too.
Overall, I'd say that they're both great EVs and can't take anything away from both, as I've enjoyed driving both of them so far. Yeah, they've got slight differences here and there, but that's what makes them unique too.
