I heard a rumor that Rivian’s production line might be shutting down for two weeks sometime soon, and I’m wondering if it’s tied to the ongoing tariff mess. The tariff war is really starting to hit manufacturing businesses hard, and it’s causing all sorts of headaches. For instance, there's a small engineering firm my friend works at, they rely on specialized equipment—like high-end stainless steel gear for food processing—that they ource from suppliers in Europe and Asia.
The problem is, there’s no one making that kind of stuff in the U.S., and their European partners have zero plans to set up shop here. The other day, she was telling me how their suppliers are only locking in prices for 24 hours because of the tariff uncertainty. So it's a nightmare trying to put together cost estimates for clients, and some of them are just hitting pause on their expansion plans because no one knows what prices will look like next week.
I’m really hoping Rivian can navigate this storm. With all the talk about their push for vertical integration, I’m guessing they’re trying to bring more component production in-house to dodge some of these tariff hits. If the rumor about the two-week shutdown is true, maybe it’s them retooling to deal with supply chain issues caused by the tariffs. Anyone else hearing about this or feeling the tariff pinch in their business? It’s frustrating, but I’m rooting for Rivian and other manufacturers to find a way through this.
