The EV market is an ever-growing market, and over the years, we've seen a lot of EV companies come up, and even companies that are known for traditional ICE cars now have EV vehicles, which tells you that they also know EVs are one for the future. One of the EV companies making real progress in the US and Canada is Rivian. They have a pickup truck (R1T) and an SUV (R1S) currently available. They're set to launch the R2 and R3 in the coming years, but for now, we will be taking a look at the R1T and R1S, comparing both in terms of design and dimensions, performance and range, interior and features, and pricing too. Letting you decide which one would be best for you to go for.
The first thing we'd be looking at is design and dimensions. So the R1T is a truck that is 217.1 inches long, has a width of 81.4 inches, and a height of 72.1 inches. It has a seating capacity of 5 passengers and a wheelbase of 135.6 inches.
Comparing this to the R1S, which is an SUV and has a length of 198.4 inches, a width of 81.4 inches, and a height of 71.6 inches. It has a seating capacity of 5 to 7 passengers and a wheelbase of 115.4 inches. So if you're someone who loves big vehicles, then the R1T would be your go-to choice. While someone who needs a vehicle that can carry more people would definitely need to go for the R1S.
In terms of it's performance and range, the R1T comes with a quad-motor configuration, goes from 0-60 mph in less than 3 seconds, up to 400+ miles of range, and a rowing capacity of up to 11,000 lbs. Comparing this to the R1S, which also comes with a quad-motor configuration, it also goes from 0-60 mph in less than 3 seconds, has up to 400+ miles of range, and has a towing capacity of over 7000 lbs. With regards to charging, they both charge at same speed as they both use the same size battery packs. So in terms of performance and range, they're almost the same apart from their towing capacity. I'm not surprised about that; given the R1T is a truck, I would expect it to have more towing capacity compared to the R1S, which's an SUV.
When it comes to the interior and features, the R1T comes with durable materials, and its interior looks practical too. Has a 12.3-inch display screen, comes with heated and ventilated seats, has a large trunk space for packing, has a clever cross-truck tunnel, which offers a fair amount of out-of-sight lockable storage (which I think is it's coolest feature), and also a frunk too, which gives extra space for packing.
The R1S, on the other hand, has a more spacious interior with premium materials, the same 12.3-inch display screen, a panoramic roof, heated and ventilated seats, and a frunk as well, which provides extra space to pack.
If you're someone who packs a lot of stuff for outdoor activities, then I'd suggest going for the R1T as it offers more room to pack. On the other hand, if you're looking for a more spacious interior and a better feel, then the R1S would definitely be the right choice for you.
When it comes to pricing, the R1T and R1S both come in different ranges.
For the R1T, it comes in the Adventure Dual Standard, Adventure Dual Large, Adventure Dual Max, and Ascend Tri Max, and prices can range from $71,000 to $102,000 depending on the range you're going for.
The R1S also comes in the same 4 ranges too, and prices can run from $78,000 to $108,000 depending on the range you're going for.
The R1T is the cheapest option in terms of pricing, mainly because the R1S offers a more stylish and luxury appeal compared to the R1T. Depending on your budget and what other factors you decide to put into consideration, you can go for either the R1T or R1S, and I guarantee you that you'd still have a great experience driving any of them no matter the range you go for.
Whether it's for your personal use or for you and the family, there are some factors to consider when trying to choose which Rivian is best to go for. These includes
1. Family Size and Seating
2. Cargo and Towing
3. Outdoor activities
4. Budget
5. Lifestyle
When trying to choose which one to go for, your needs, preferences, activities, budget, and lifestyle should be put into consideration, as this would help narrow down your choice to one that would best suit you and your needs.
