I have been curious if anybody else has had this happen and what the resolution was. Sometime last week, I loaded a few boxes into my truck bed (tonneau cover open) and headed for a 30 mile drive to a property I own. On the way, I got the notification that the truck bed was open. I pulled over and checked, it was closed securely. I hit the button on the outside rail, it opened. I re-closed it. Everything seemed fine. I get back inside the truck and it is still indicating as open.

Once I got to where I was going, I unloaded and started troubleshooting. If I hit the gate release, I would always hear it - but only on the passenger side. The one on the left side was silent. There was a lot of what looked like brake dust covering the left one. I hit it with some air but no change in operation.

In troubleshooting further, I hit the egress button inside the bed of the truck (passenger side). That made it mad. With what seems to be a failed sensor / actuator on one side, the truck thinks someone or something is "trapped" in the bed of the truck. Now I had a blaring error message telling me to check the cargo area for persons, animals or loose cargo. A soft and hard reset did nothing to clear the error. As soon as it booted up, the error came back.

I opened a ticket and because of the alarm (and I am 200 miles from the closest SC), a tow was arranged for the next day. I plugged the truck into a level 2 charger I have installed and had my friend pick me up.

I went back next day to get my things out of the truck (since it will likely sit at a service center for x weeks) and there were no error codes! The actuator on both sides were working fine. I took it for a test drive to shake it up a little. Surprisingly, it has been working fine ever since. I cancelled the tow truck and my service ticket is listed as "In Review".

When I cancelled the tow, they had told me the SC manager had opted to bring it in as it sounded more complicated than what they would have the mobile guy fix. Really? I might start shooting the tail gate release actuators with some compressed air once in a while going forward to keep them dust free.
