I've seen a few people complain about their gear tunnel door having issues. I've experienced such and it was fixed by Rivian. I believe it was a software issue cause I can't really tell how it was fixed.
So I had this exact same thing happen to my R1T sometime last year. A little over a year after I purchased by R1T, I had my first false "Open Gear Door" notice. It was intermittent, so I got out and opened and closed the door. A few minutes later, same thing so I slammed the door closed. Seemed to fix it for a few days. When the problem came back, I called Rivian support and was advised to perform a soft reset of the infotainment system and, if that didn't work, perform a hard reset.
I performed the soft reset in my garage, but didn't drive the truck for a few days. Rivian service guy called back asking if they could close the ticket, but I asked them to keep it open for another week. A few days later problem happened again. I was just accelerating though an intersection and the truck was in "turtle-mode". Pulled over and performed a soft reset.
Drove a few miles more and the warning reappeared. Performed and "hard reset". Problem persisted, so I managed to limp home and schedule a time to drop the truck off at a service center about 30 minutes away. I managed to get the truck to the service center with the warning intermittently occurring. Left the truck and got a rental car.
After a week at the service center, they reported they couldn't duplicate the problem. They indicated that error logs did show multiple warnings, so they knew it wasn't my imagination. I suggested they take it on long drives through rough roads. A few more days later, they still couldn't duplicate the problem, so I offered to come down and drive it around myself. They agreed. I came to the center and drove it for about an hour and couldn't duplicate the problem, so I decided to take the truck home.
I asked them if they did anything and the service guy gave me a vague "we reset a bunch of stuff" answer. Nothing pointed to a solid fix. I had the truck for about 10 days and could not see the problem, so I'm sure they must have done something that day.
