My R1S Charging Got a Boost, and I’m Thrilled

Hey guys, I'm sure everyone has been loving the auto front camera on R1 vehicles given it's perfect for squeezing into those preschool pickup lines or just enjoying a good drive. But here’s a slight feature I haven’t been too cool with for a while. When pulling into the car wash, I'd need to shift to neutral, and that camera’s still front and center, making me navigate menus to hit car wash mode. Not a crisis (I’ve handled worse with a toddler meltdown), but it’d be nice if it flowed a bit easier. Sure, the stalk’s there—reliable, like my old minivan—but that car wash button feels like it was made for busy moms like me. How great would it be if the camera just paused when car wash mode kicks in? Straight to neutral, no extra steps—like the car’s saying, “Relax, I’ve got this.” Would be a total win. Anyone else juggling this? Maybe Rivian could tweak it for us multitaskers.

I’ve been meaning to sit down and write about this for days now cause this latest 2025.06.01 update has me all kinds of excited, and I’m not usually one to gush over software stuff. Mainly cause as a Gen 1 owner, I’ve been through the ups and downs with this truck, but man, the folks at Rivian just made charging way better, and I’ve got to give them a shoutout.

Before this update rolled in, I was topping out at 190 kWh on a good day. Not bad, right? It got me where I needed—grocery runs, weekend hikes, hauling my kid’s sports gear and all. But after the update hit, I plugged in and watched that number climb to 210 kWh. I legit stood there by the charger, grinning like a goof, because that extra juice means I can push my R1S harder without sweating the range. It’s like the truck’s saying, “Hey, I’ve got your back—go farther.”

I spent half my Saturday just driving around to test it, zipping past my usual routes, and it felt smoother than ever. The software team deserves a shout out cause they’re making these Gen 1 Rivians feel fresh again. I’m hooked on this rig already, but little wins like this? They keep me proud to always move around in my R1S. Hope they keep the updates coming!
