- R1S Rivian Blue

When I first got my R1S, I noticed a gap on the driver's plastic seat. Didn't know why it was there if maybe it was a factory error, and so I called the Rivian service and they informed me that its designed to allow space for the extension of the lumbar support.
I haven't tried it yet but from what I've read, I think it's normal and was also told that it allows for seat articulation. Also, when you change the seat tilt, it widens or closes the gap. I have seen similar on other makes of vehicles too but have never put too much thought into it.
