I did hit a frustrating snag with my Rivian R1T the other day when the charge port door refused to open all the way. It was a comfy 60 degrees outside, so there was no chance of it being frozen shut. I tried a hard reboot twice, thinking it might reset whatever was going on, but no luck. Forcing it open didn’t feel like the right call either, so I decided to do a little check around the charge port door area.

After some inspection, I found the issue: the clip that secures the charge port door to the actuator had slipped off, throwing everything out of alignment. If you’re facing the same problem with your R1T, here’s how I fixed it.
I started by gently rotating the door open by hand to get a better look. You don’t want to muscle it—just take it slow. Since I’m pretty handy, I grabbed a screwdriver and removed the three screws on the inside of the charge port assembly to access the clip. Sure enough, it was loose. I popped the clip back onto the actuator, made sure everything was lined up properly, and screwed the door back in place. Took about 10 minutes, and the charge port was working perfectly again.
If you’re someone who might not have the time to tackle this yourself or maybe not that handy with tools, a Rivian service center can handle it, but for me, this quick DIY saved the day. Has anyone else had this happen with their R1T? Curious to hear how you dealt with it!
